BookCrossing

Two starcrossed lovers meet on a park bench...

In the case of BookCrossing, though, the lovers are book and reader. I find this concept very cool. Register at bookcrossing.com and leave books random places for random people to find. Spread the gift of knowledge or just get rid of used books in a unique way.

The site says this:

BookCrossing is earth-friendly and gives you a way to share your books, clear your shelves, and conserve precious resources at the same time. Through our own unique method of recycling reads, BookCrossers give life to books. A book registered on BookCrossing is ready for adventure.

Leave it on a park bench, a coffee shop, at a hotel on vacation. Share it with a friend or tuck it onto a bookshelf at the gym -- anywhere it might find a new reader! What happens next is up to fate, and we never know where our books might travel. Track the book's journey around the world as it is passed on from person to person.

  1. I've been a member of BookCrossing since 2003. It's a lovely way to share the love of reading. Besides the wild releasing there are often times group meetings and other ways of interacting with members. Check out the forums on the site to get ideas on how to release books, meet up with members and to share or swap books.

  2. I always think how great these things are, except then I realize that if I saw a book sitting on a bench, I probably wouldn't want to touch it. And if it started to rain...

  3. Well, I rather hope they're not star-crossed, but I've been a Bookcrossing member since December 2002 and I love it. Haven't had much luck with my wild releases getting journaled, but I'm forever hopeful that someday a book that I released years ago will pop up again. (It happens all the time.)

And Bookcrossing is how I met my husband.
